Curator's note

Deadpool, created by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, first appearing in The New Mutants #98 (1991). Wade Wilson was a mercenary with terminal cancer who volunteered for the Weapon X program seeking a cure; the resulting healing factor made him nearly unkillable but left him badly scarred. His name comes from a betting pool on which agent would die next, and he remains comics' most self-aware character, fully conscious that he's fictional and rarely quiet about it.
